Many people tend to ignore regular car maintenance but this is a bad idea. Neglecting vehicle maintenance can cost in terms of time and money. You may end up with an engine breakdown on the road. If nothing, your car may lose its resale value due to improper servicing. However, you can avert these issues by following preventive repairing. Whether it is a gearbox problem in your Ford Fiesta or Vauxhall Zafira Exhaust System.

Saving Money on Regular Vehicle Maintenance

With a little effort, you can service your own car. We have enlisted a few useful tips that will help you. These are the basic maintenance measures that you can do at home.

Fixing the Exhaust

Exhaust damage can give birth to various other problems. Improper and malfunctioning exhaust can enhance fuel consumption. It can also damage other car parts if leakage happens. Especially fumes escape into the cabin can cause serious threats to the driver’s life. That’s why it becomes more important to check your exhaust.

Do a checkup when the engine is cold. Clear the debris and try to find any damage or hole. If there are holes, you can easily fill them with the Gun Gum. Apply the gum with your finger or a spatula. And don’t forget to wear gloves while applying the gum.

Replace the Wipers

Another part that is easy to service is on your windshield. Wipers are easy to replace and cheap as compared to other parts. But most car owners forget to check them unless it gets streaky. You should replace them after a frequent time. Never wait for the streaky view on your windshield.

Change the wipers and oil to have a good clean view. You shouldn’t compromise on your visibility while driving the vehicle. Besides, delaying wiper maintenance may cause you more when you have to replace them completely.

Check the Battery

Do a regular checkup and if necessary, clean the contacts. Batteries are less of a problem these days, but as a driver, you must be aware of its location. Check and see that the contracts don’t have any debris. Use the battery cleaning brush if there is any buildup.

Make sure that your battery is not leaking. It is better to have a jump starter or battery tester in your car. This way you can ensure that your car works properly.

Change the Oil

Oil changing costs less but this is a very vital process. Drivers tend to neglect it until their engine takes the toll. Oil ensures even wear or the engine components and lubricates them. It’s also necessary to prevent your engine from exceeding temperature. Regular oil changing ensure the engine runs with optimal temperature.

Oil replacement also keeps engine parts clean. However, it loses its efficiency with usage over time. You should replace it with the recommended oil as per the owner’s manual. A vehicle may lose fuel 1-2% efficiency if inappropriate oil is used.

Replace Air Filters

Air filters work as lungs for your car. They not ensure air supply to the engine and save it from debris and dust. A dirty filter doesn’t allow much air to pass and as a result, the engine burns too much gas. This also causes more fuel consumption and less smooth rides. You should check the air filters while changing your engine oil.
